Istanbul Airspace Turkish Airspace is divided into two FIRs (Flight Information Region); İstanbul (LTBB) FIR and Ankara (LTAA) FIR. İstanbul FIR has an ACC (Area Control Center) which is divided into two main sectors; İstanbul North ACC and İstanbul South ACC (İzmir APP).
No airspace classification is made in Turkish airspace. Thus, all of the IFR and VFR flights entering a controlled airspace have to be equipped with a transponder and a transceiver radio. The airspace within İstanbul FIR of the applicable FIR between FL290 and FL410 inclusive, as described in IFR in Turkey, is EUR RVSM Airspace. Within this airspace, the vertical seperation minimum shall be: 1. 1000 FT(300M) between RVSM approved aircraft, 2. 2000 FT(600M) between Non-RVSM approved state aircraft and any other operating within the EUR RVSM airspace, an aircraft experiencing a communication failure in flight operating within the EUR RVSM airspace.
